ASABE Award Winners Honored

St Joseph, Mich--The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) recently presented awards for outstanding technical and professional achievements. The following individuals were honored at the 2017 ASABE Annual International Meeting, held recently in Spokane, Washington.

BILL A. STOUT, PE, ASABE FELLOW, is the inaugural recipient of the Lalit an dAruna Verma Award for Excellence in Global Engagement, for 50 years of sustained contributions to the professio nthrough a variety of international assignments and endeavors. Full biography
DIGVIR S. JAYAS, PEng, ASABE Fellow, University of Manitoba, is the 2017 recipient of the Sukup Global Food Security Award, for his exceptional research and teaching career, which has enhanced grain preservation throughout the world. Full Biography
DANNY H. ROGERS, PE, ASABE Fellow, Kansas State University, is the 2017 recipient of the Heermann Sprinkler Irrigation Award for research and extension work on sprinkler irrigation in the Great Plains region. Full Biography
RICHARD BYLER, USDA-ARS, is the recipient of the 2017 Mayfield Cotton award in recognition of his outstanding leadership in the cotton-ginning industry and significant research contributions to moisture management and process control. Full Biography
VIJAY P. SINGH, PE, Texas A&M University, is the recipient of the 2017 ADS/Hancor Soil and Water Engineering Award for his pioneering contributions to soil and water engineering, specifically in modeling watersheds, infiltration, and evapotranspiration, as well as drought hydrology and surface irrigation. JERRY WILLE, PE, ASABE Fellow, Curry-Wille & Associates, is the recipient of the 2017 Henry Giese Structures and Environment Award for eproviding a long and sustained positive impact to the structures and environment field, and to ASABE. Full Biography.
CURTIS L. WELLER, PE, ASABE Fellow, is the recipient of the 2017 PEI Professional Engineer of the Year Award for championing agricultural and biological engineerig licensure and value-added processing of agricultural commodities. Full Biography.
STEVEN K. MICKELSON, Iowa State University, is recipient of the James R. & Karen A. Gilley Academic Leadership Award for distinguished leadership in advancing the rogram, facilities, personnel, enrollments, and ranking of the Iowa State University agricultural and biosystems engineerig department. PAUL AYERS, PE, University of Tennessee, is the recipient of the 2017 SMV Technologies Ergonomics, Safety, and Health Award for solving issues surrounding the retrofitting and adaptation of rollover protective structures (ROPS) on tractors and for improving ROPS technology and developing solutions for all machine types. CHANGYING (CHARLIE) LI, RUI XU, AND PENGCHENG YU were honored with the 2017 Rain Bird Engineering Concept of the Year Award for the second-generation Berry Impact Recording Device (BIRD II), a novel sensor to quantitatively measure mechanical impacts on blueberries creaed by machine harvesting, packing lines, and transportation vehicles.
