Member Hour AMAA Series: An Introduction to the Alliance for Modernizing African Agrifood Systems

10/11/2023 12:00:00 PM (Eastern Standard Time) - 10/11/2023 1:00:00 PM (Eastern Standard Time)

Global population is expected to exceed 10 billion by 2050. Combine this projection with the added pressures of rapid urbanization and diet transformations, and it is expected that global food production must double to meet this growing demand. With 60% of unexploited arable land being in the continent of Africa, we must focus on increasing agricultural productivity to ensure global food security not just in Africa but for the rest of the world.

Agricultural and biological engineers have played a critical role in transforming American agriculture into a highly productive and profitable sector of our economy. Can we take a similar approach to transforming African agrifood systems through engineering technologies and innovations.
