WHITE PAPER - ASAE STANDARDS COUNCIL
RESPONSIBILITIES

Philosophy: Standards Council is responsible for the Strategies for the ASAE Standards Program, including policy and coordination activities across all ASAE Technical units. The Council provides the overall guidance for the 03 Standards Committees who handle the operational aspects of standards development with Development Committees (Technical) addressing content, technical detail and balloting. T-01 Policy Committee develops and maintains the ASAE standardization procedures to instruct and guide the ASAE standards program participants to ensure due process required in ANSI accredited Standards Development Organizations (SDO) is achieved.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY           DETAILS
1. Budget

  • Establish objectives for budget development by staff
  • Provide guidelines for standards staff to develop budget
  • Review and approval of budgets
  • Submission to finance committee
2. Funding
  • Review of proposals for pricing of services
  • Establish outside funding budget and contributions guidelines
  • Identify key constituents for CSP support
  • Outline CSP approach to guide ASAE staff
  • Liaison with ASAE Foundation on establishment of standards funds and application of distributions
3. Liaison
    Internal
  • Report to board on operations of standards programs (chair)
  • Annual report to Society (Chair and/or Standards Director)
    External
  • Network with key constituents on relationships with ASAE, values/benefits, (ASAE member and external organizations)
  • Development of relationships with key organizations and SDO national and international
    - AEM(EMI), FEMA, federal/state agencies
    - ANSI, SAE, ISO, IA, ASTM, other SDO
    (International activity coordination handled by T13)
4. Policy/Strategy
    Bylaws/Procedures/Policy
  • Coordinates common areas of operations between divisions
  • Establishes guidelines for consistent operations throughout ASAE
    Strategy
  • Develops long term strategic plan for ASAE standards program
  • Provides strategic direction for operations within divisions
  • Communicate plan to Board of Trustees and Society
    Issues
  • Act on standards issue resolution between by divisions
5. Resources
  • Counsel ASAE staff and divisions on application and recruitment of internal and external resources for standards development.
6. Acknowledgement
  • Administer awards program, recognition within divisions
  • Review and confirmation of standards awards
7. Marketing
  • Develop strategic approach required to promote development, application, support and marketing of services.
