ASAE T13 INTERNATIONAL STANDARDIZATION
COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES

Philosophy: Standards Council is responsible for the strategies for the ASAE Standards Program, including policy and coordination activities across all ASAE technical units. The council provides the overall guidance for the 03 Standards Committees who handle the operational aspects of standards development with Development Committees addressing content, technical detail and balloting. Policy and procedure are the responsibility of T01. T13 identifies and coordinates standards activities between ASAE and other Standards Developing Organizations (SDO)

KEY RESPONSIBILITY            DETAILS

1. Budget

  • Provides input to Standards Council on budgetary requirements/impacts of standards work including:

  • · Licensing fees for use of other SDO standards
    · Marketing or publishing projects for ASAE standards in other SDO sectors
2. Funding

  • Identify key international constituents for CSP support for the Standards Council programs

  • Identify funding for support of ISO activities of interest to ASAE, or international standards committees with North American assigned responsibility to ASAE

3. Liaison

    Internal
  • Report to Standards Council committee international standards activities/issues
  • Liaison with New Standards Identification and Coordination Committee and interact with ASAE technical units to coordinate overlapping international standards activities between 03 divisions

  • External
  • Identify and include key constituents in standards development of international interest including US Technical Advisory Groups to ISO

  • Establish networks and areas for standards development in international subject fields with other SDO including but not limited to SAE and ISO

  • Identify key bodies nationally or internationally that ASAE Standards Council, Board of Trustees or staff should establish relationships with to expand the use, reference or support of the ASAE standards program. Included but not limited to SAE, EMI, Irrigation Association (IA)

  • Establish bylaws in concurrence with guidelines set forth by the Standards Council

  • Monitor international standards development and bring to the attention of the New Standards Identification and Coordination Committee subjects of current or future interest to ASAE for evaluation.
  • Develop strategic plan for expanded international application of ASAE standards
  • Consult with the 03 Standards Committees on the review of, and establishing of common representation to ASAE Standards Development Committees and representation to key international SDO committees with which North American agricultural and biological groups of ASAE have mutual interests in standards.
  • Provide the overview to promote the approach for one standard, one test and use worldwide
  • Provide guidance to the Standards Council to serve the ASAE objective of a world center for standards (national or international scope of the proposed standard)
5. Resources
  • Identify and recruit resources required to work the standards process domestically and internationally
  • Recommend representatives to other SDO activities
  • Coordinate alignment of standards development (technical) committees with international SDO activities
6. Acknowledgement
  • Identify and nominate candidates for awards and acknowledgements
7. Marketing
  • Provide to the standards council recommendations on means to promote the development, application and support of standards internationally.
