Engineering & Technology for a Sustainable World

JUNE 1999 - VOL. 6 NO. 6

AgriTech '99

Dear Readers;

This special issue of Resource: Engineering & Technology for a Sustainable World is our most recent effort to promote your profession. AgriTech '99: Trends, Services and Innovations will be mailed free to 8,300 row crop, 1,500 tree fruit and 1,200 nut producers throughout the United States. That means 11,000 producers, their families and friends will learn how engineers in agricultural, food, and biological systems and related industries can help to improve their lives.

AgriTech '99 highlights engineering accomplishments and refers producers to the latest products and services available. Resource magazine's 1999 AE50 award winners are showcased in this issue along with feature articles describing how some of these innovative products were developed. The AE50 winners pages will be available soon as a pdf file.

This issue also contains the annual Resource magazine Guide to Consultants, which lists various agricultural, food and biological systems engineers and describes their expertise. A special pullout section titled "What a Consulting Agricultural Engineer Can Do for You," describes how producers can choose the right engineering consultant to fit their needs. This booklet was sponsored by ASAE's Professional Engineering Institute.

Rounding out AgriTech '99 are feature articles on hot topics in the agricultural/food/biological systems areas including farm safety, computer assisted farming, vertical integration and sustainable agriculture. Readers outside the engineering community will gain a new insight into the engineering professions, accomplishments and possibilities for the future. Please consider passing this issue along to others you would like to learn more about your work.

We encourage your comments and ideas for future issues. Contact us by letter, telephone or e-mail. Our ongoing goal is to inform the public and we hope you will join us in this effort.

Sincerely,

The Resource Staff
