Engineering & Technology for a
Sustainable World
JANUARY 1998 - VOL. 5 NO. 1
Features
Women and the Culture of Engineering
Women are a minority in agricultural and biological engineering jobs in North
America. Statistics in Canada show slight increases in the number of females
entering the field, but equality is far from sight.
Reducing Cotton Production Costs
A one-pass stalk and root embedding apparatus is on the horizon to manage
cotton plant residue.
A Tiger's Tale
Biological and agricultural engineering students at Louisiana State University
say textbooks are no match for the hands-on learning experience they are
getting. Their special design project is focused on Mike the Tiger -- the
school mascot.
Last Word (reader opinion) - EPA Stalks "Plant Pesticides"
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is proposing laws that would regulate
crops bioengineered to resist pests and diseases as "pesticides."
