RESOURCE
Engineering & Technology for a
Sustainable World
FEBRUARY 1998 - VOL. 5 NO. 2
Dear Readers:
Engineers in agricultural, food and biological systems know that their
accomplishments too often go unnoticed by the public. These researchers,
designers and developers play a key role in advancing civilization.
We believe the time has come to spread this message to the world.
This special issue of Resource: Engineering & Technology for a Sustainable
World
takes a step toward helping people understand and appreciate agricultural, food
and biological systems engineering. And what better place to start with than
our youth?
ASAE volunteers will distribute Discover: futures in
agricultural, food and biological engineering
to thousands of students across the globe who are considering career
opportunities. Through insightful articles, this issue highlights the
contributions of engineers in biological and agricultural engineering with a
focus on machinery, aquaculture, forestry, food and food processing,
information technology, structures, soil and water, environment and energy.
Discover
describes what engineers working in these fields do and how they do it. It will
be used by colleges and universities to draw interest to their programs and
forge a new generation of engineers in agricultural, food and biological
systems.
Some ASAE sections have purchased extra copies of Discover
to distribute to students in their areas. Numerous ASAE members will take the
magazines to their local high schools, community colleges and job fairs to
promote their professions. During National Engineers Week activities in
Washington, D.C., several hundred copies of this issue will be available to
students from throughout the United States.
You can help by sharing your copy of this magazine with people you know who are
unfamiliar with agricultural, food and biological systems engineering. It is an
opportunity to give your profession the exposure it deserves.
Because this is a new endeavor for Resource, we would appreciate your
comments, suggestions or concerns. Call, write or e-mail us at
editor@asabe.org
and we will use the information to plan future special issues.
Thank you for your support. We are excited about making an impact with this
special magazine -- and we hope you enjoy reading it.
Sincerely,
The Resource Staff
