• Up in Smoke
  Researchers have developed an instrument that monitors carbon in coal ash, produced from burning coal, by listening to its response to heat. Measuring carbon is a way to show if energy is being wasted through inefficient combustion.



• New Inspection Policies for Meat
  U.S. government regulations are going into effect to better monitor meat production and reduce bacteria-borne illnesses.



• Chipping Away at a Tough Problem
  Agriculture could soon provide alternative uses for old vehicle tires to save disposal costs and curb environmental concerns.



• Scientific Oil Check
  A device used to evaluate lubricant quality in aircrafts used in Operation Desert Storm is now available for ground vehicle engines.

• Proposed Changes to the ASAE Constitution
  In 1997, ASAE members will be asked to vote on proposed changes to the ASAE Constitution ­ changes that are designed to make ASAE a more member-responsive Society. In this issue, Constitution and Bylaws Committee Head Del Fangmeier describes the proposed changes, and committee member Steve Searcy explains how they would affect individual members.
