Features

  • Predicting the Visual Effect of Forest Operations
Preserving the visual quality of forest resources is an important goal in the engineering design of a forest management plan. Advancing technologies are improving the ability of resource management professionals to incorporate physical considerations into planning. In a case study of the Siouxon Block, part of the Cascade Range in Washington, a geographic information system is used to identify areas at risk of visual degradation from harvest activities proposed in an actual management plan.
  • Can Ants Aid Manufacturing?
Today's rapidly changing market conditions require immediate response to dynamically changing customer needs with highly differentiated products and value-based services. Studying ant behavior can lead to new methods that can help manufacturers to thrive in this environment of continual and unexpected change.
