There are nearly 3,500 steps in the assembly process for Deere's 5000 Series tractors, and an entire job is completed in less than four hours. The computerized system provides assembly operators with build instructions and quality control information for a specific tractor, which may vary due to tractor options. The "smart" AGVs interface with operators using "smart" tools that let operators know that fittings are torqued properly, and some tools actually count the number of fasteners.
