The Vision that Cut Drudgery from Farming Forever
This is the intriguing story of Dr. J. Brownlee Davidson who, at a very young age, is credited with launching the agricultural engineering profession. At the age of 25 he was assistant professor in charge of the Department of Farm Mechanics at Iowa State College (later University) which, with his guidance, soon evolved into the first four-year agricultural engineering curriculum. He went on, with like-minded others, to form the American Society of Agricultural Engineers in 1907. Author ASABE Past President Sherwood S. DeForest, a former student of Davidson, describes him as an "extraordinary man with a vision." Must reading for anyone involved in the profession and sure to be of interest to the general public who have benefited greatly from the contributions of agricultural engineering.
