Back at the Associate Editor Center, the AE can see the files from the reviewer for the author as well as from the reviewer for AE. The AE could also assign him/herself as a reviewer.
AE can also attach more files, both for the author and for the AE. (Generally an AE would not want to attach files for the AE, but it could happen if, for example, an AE was going on vacation and wanted the new AE to have info, or if the AE wanted to save reminders about the ms, or if the reviewer mailed paper comments that the AE then scanned.)

Click on the underlined “Attach Files...” and you get a window for uploading and a list of files already there. The files for authors are all PDFs that are made by the system when docs are uploaded; the original doc is kept in the Files For Associate Editor list.
