Peer-Reviewed Journals

The American Society of Agricultural Engineers supports four peer-reviewed journals: Transactions of the ASABE and Applied Engineering in Agriculture are both published six times a year, and the Journal of Agricultural Safety and Health and Biological Engineering is published four times a year.

Biological Engineering

This peer-reviewed journal offers engineers, scientists, researchers and others interested in biological engineering an opportunity to exchange knowledge in this quarterly publication. The journal focuses on a wide range of biological engineering topics including bioprocessing, bioreactor design, cell culture, tissue engineering, metabolic engineering, biosensors, bioinstrumentation, bioenvironmental systems, ecological engineering, bioremediation, modeling of biological processes, molecular technologies, bioconversion, biological structures and mechanics, biofuels, and more. Your manuscript must meet all of the following requirements:

· The material represents original, useful contributions to the biological engineering literature.

· The scope, purpose, and summary or conclusions must be stated in an objective, well-organized manner.

· The article must emphasize aspects of both biology and engineering.

· The information must be organized in a way that allows easy adaptation and use by others.

Your manuscript should also contain at least one of the following elements:

· Original research data and analyses.

· Results of practical experiences, tests, or trials.

· Critical review, synthesis, or evaluation of existing information.

· Research information for the improvement of design, construction, or manufacturing practice.

· Significant and convincing evidence that confirms and strengthens the findings of others, or that revises ideas or challenges accepted theory.

· A critical review of research or design information of comprehensive and well-defined scope.

Transactions of the ASABE

This technical publication serves as the Society's principal repository for detailed technical articles with primary emphasis on research. Your manuscript must meet the following requirements:

· The material represents original, important contributions to research or design literature of interest to the Society.

· It clearly represents the design or development of technology, or research into problems of direct interest to the profession.

· The manuscript must clearly state the scope and purpose of the research. The information must be objective and well organized, and the conclusions must be adequately supported.

Your manuscript should also contain at least one of the following elements:

· Original data, analysis or design, or synthesis of existing information.

·  Research information for the improvement of design, construction, or manufacturing practice.

·  Significant and convincing evidence that confirms and strengthens the findings of others, or that revises ideas or challenges accepted theory.

·  A critical review of research or design information of comprehensive and well-defined scope.

Applied Engineering in Agriculture

This technical publication serves as the Society's principal repository for engineering applications in the agriculture and bioresource industries. For this publication, your manuscript must meet all of the following requirements:

·  The material represents original, useful contributions to engineering for agriculture, food, or biological systems and/or mechanization applications literature. It must also have current, lasting, or apparent future value.

·   It must emphasize the application of engineering to agriculture, food, or biological systems and/or mechanization knowledge and skill.

· The information must be presented in an objective, well-organized manner that allows for easy adaptation and use by others. The scope, purpose, and summary must be clearly stated.

Your manuscript should also contain at least one of the following elements:

·  Results of practical experiences, tests, or trials presented in a manner and style that will allow easy adaptation by others.

· Results of reviews or studies of installations or applications, and substantially new or significant information not readily available in other refereed publications.

· A description of successful methods of techniques of technology transfer.

· A critical review of new technology or educational methods of comprehensive and well-defined scope.

Technical Notes

When the scope and amount of information does not require a full-length article in either Transactions of the ASABE or Applied Engineering in Agriculture, your manuscript will be designated a Technical Note. In order to be considered for publication as a Technical Note, your manuscript must meet the following criteria:

·  It represents a contribution to the Society's literature and meets the criteria of the journal to which it is submitted. However, the scope and amount of information in the manuscript does not warrant a full-length article.

·  It presents new apparatus, instrumentation, experimental techniques, or computer program developments.

· It presents observations and preliminary results of topics of great current interest.

· It presents results that confirm or refute previously published work.

·  It presents a compilation of useful data.

Journal of Agricultural Safety and Health

This interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal is designed to foster the identification and discussion of agricultural safety and health issues. Articles written by experts in the fields of engineering, occupational safety, social psychology, public policy, education, industrial hygiene, and public health appear in this quarterly publication. Your manuscript must meet all of the following requirements:

·  The material represents original, useful contributions to the agricultural safety and health literature.

·  The scope, purpose, and summary or conclusions must be stated in an objective, well-organized manner.

·  The article must emphasize aspects of safety and health relating to agriculture, or relate agricultural safety and health to other public health or occupational fields, issues, or concerns.

· The information must be organized in a way that allows easy adaptation and use by others. The scope, purpose, and summary must be clearly stated.

Your manuscript should also contain at least one of the following elements:

·  Original research data and analyses.

·   Results of practical experiences, tests, or trials.

· Critical review, synthesis, or evaluation of existing information.

·  Scientifically based discussion or proposal for advancing agricultural safety and health.
