HEADQUARTERS REPORT 3/1/01 - 5/31/01
MEMBERSHIP

Member Statistics
For the period 3/1/01 - 5/31/01 we welcomed 194 new members into the Society. This number includes 126 new regular members, 41 reinstated members and 27 graduating students who transferred their student memberships to full memberships. Additionally, we recruited 181 new student members. As of 5/31/01, total ASAE membership was 8,125 which includes 6,678 regular members and 1,447 student/preprofessional members.

Retention
Of the 8,056 invoices that were mailed for dues year 2001 in October 2000, 7,011 members have paid their dues as of 5/31/01. Retention of regular members to date is 92% while the student/preprofessional retention rate is 62%. Third invoices were mailed on 3/5/01 with an e-mail reminder sent on 3/27/01. We were forced to inactivate 1,282 member records (755 regular members and 527 student/preprofessional members) for non-payment of dues on 4/6/01. Due to the efforts of the membership staff, we were able to get many of those members back through a targeting marketing telephone campaign.

New ASAE Member Lists to Division Chairs
In April, we began electronically sending to each division chair, a list of new members who have indicated their specific technical interest area as primary or secondary. We provide the chair with contact information so that they may contact the new members to get them involved from the start. This has been very well received to date and plans to provide monthly updates will continue.

Sections
Harmon Towne or Wayne Skaggs visited the following sections DC/Maryland and Florida. We continue to receive great feedback from members on how to better serve sections.

To keep sections continually informed of happenings at headquarters and of new ASAE members coming into their section, we continue to e-mail the "Section Update" newsletter to all section officers. We are also e-mailing monthly, a list of new regular members, new student members and reinstating members who have come back to the Society.

BrassRing Services
The ASAE Membership Development Council voted to provide the services of BrassRing as a new member benefit. Through a mix of electronic databases and web products, BrassRing provides a number of recruiting tools such as resume database systems, job posting services, career fairs, and executive searches. We are pleased to report that the ResumeMatch and JobMatch portions of these career services went live on the ASAE Web site in May. Members may now upload their resumes and search the job listings, as a benefit of membership while employers must pay a fee to search online resumes.

Young Professionals Group
We are in the process of establishing an ASAE Young Professionals Group, lead by Russell Persyn of Iowa State. The primary focus of the group is to encourage active participation in ASAE through leadership and social opportunities for new young members and those members transitioning from student to full membership. Issues such as staying current in your chosen technical field, preparing for licensure, expanding knowledge with continuing professional development and creating vital resource networks with other professionals will be addressed. There will be an information organizational meeting at the Annual Meeting in Sacramento.
