Invoicing
2003
Third invoices were mailed 3/8 with an e-mail reminder sent
3/24. On 4/8, we dropped 1,537 members for non-payment of dues. This number was
comprised of 884 regular members and 653 preprofessional/student members.
Combined with the 130 members that requested to be dropped between 10/1/02 and
4/7/03, the total number of members who were taken out of membership was 1,667.
A final e-mail reminder was sent on 4/23 to all unpaid
members. A few weeks later, an exit survey with a final invoice was mailed to
all non-student members on 5/12. A final e-mail blast was sent to all students
on 5/13 notifying them that their memberships had been dropped and asking them
to reinstate. We continue to have members renew their memberships daily.
Sections
& Student Branches
Visits were made to Arizona, Central Illinois, Louisiana,
Ohio and a combined Georgia/Tennessee section meeting. Feedback from the
sections continues to help headquarters serve them better.
Section Officer Update electronic
newsletters were sent to section officers, the Membership Development Council
and the ASAE leadership on 3/31 and 6/13 with headquarters news and updates.
More and more sections are taking the information and publishing it in their
section newsletters and posting it on their Web sites.
Preprofessional/Student
Outreach
The Preprofessional Officers in
conjunction with headquarters staff developed the first newsletter aimed
specifically towards ASAE student branches. It was e-mailed on 4/4 and
contained information of interest to preprofessionals such as activities at the
Las Vegas meeting as well as regional highlights of preprofessional activities.
The next newsletter is scheduled to go out in October.
A new member newsletter was sent by
e-mail on 4/1 to all members who joined ASAE within the last year. The
newsletter highlighted information especially targeted to new member interests.
These newsletters are a part of an overall New Member Program developed within
the last year to get new members involved in ASAE programs and activities from
the start.
Quarter Scale Tractor
Student Design Competition
The sixth annual Quarter
Scale Tractor Student Design Competition was held 5/29 – 6/1 in East Moline,
IL. Thirty first teams and 15 X-teams from across the U.S. and Canada competed.
Kansas State University reclaimed their title this year with Université Laval taking second by only a slight margin (26 points out of a total 2,100).
The University of Kentucky took third, with the Oklahoma State University and Michigan State
University teams placing fourth and fifth respectively. The competition gained
coverage from the Quad City Times, The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus, and the local NBC TV station affiliate. Quarter Scale banquet host
Max Armstrong also had coverage of the event on his 6/2 WGN radio program U.S. Farm Report.
Chicago’s WTTW, Channel
11 Wild Chicago segment featured the Past Presidents’ 1/4 Scale Tractor
Pull from last year’s Annual International Meeting. It aired 4/13 and again on
4/19.
