Order of the Engineer

ASABE was recently accepted as the newest link (chapter) of the
Order of the Engineer and had its first induction ceremony on
August 9, 2011, at the ASABE Annual International Meeting (AIM).
Graduates and registered engineers were invited to accept the
Obligation of the Engineer and a stainless steel ring, which is
worn on the little finger of the engineer's working hand.
The Order was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit
of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to
bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to
the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer. The first
ceremony was held on June 4, 1970. Since then, similar ceremonies
have been held across the United States. The Obligation of the
Order of the Engineer is similar to the Canadian "Ritual of the
Calling of an Engineer" initiated there in 1926. To learn more
about the Order, please click here.
We invite all qualified individuals to join the Order. Eligible
candidates include: all graduates of ABET-accredited engineering
programs; seniors in ABET-accredited programs within two academic
years of graduation; licensed PEs; and, by reciprocity, members of
the Canadian Calling. The Link may also induct special engineers
who, by reason of education, eminence, or experience, are deemed
worthy of the Order with approval of the National Board of
Governors.
ASABE plans to hold an induction ceremony at each subsequent
AIM. Inductees must be present to accept their certificates and
rings. The cost of entering the Order is $10.00, and inductees
should register with Tina
Schultz on-site at the membership booth at the AIM. If you
prefer to pre-register, please complete an application here
and return to Tina. Questions? Please contact Tina.
The desire to establish an ASABE link of the Order came from of
ED-414 Professional Ethics Committee, with assistance from the
Young Professionals Community.
Congratulations to
the 2011 Class of Inductees!
