Concepcion - Chile

The city of Concepción, is the capital of the Bío Bío region, and is one of the most important comercial and financial points of the country. The great contribution that it provides to the forestry, fishing and industrial area of the zone, impacts in a very strong and important way in the national economic activity, contributing notoriously in the national incomes. 

With an actual population of almost 780 thousand inhabitants and with a temperate maritime climate most part of the year, the "Great Concepción" impresses being a college metropolis by excellence, concentrating many education institutes and universities.

Great amounts of cultural activities within congresses, seminaries, workshops, musical and sports events; give to this city a lot of dinamism during the year.

 

Location

Concepción city is located at 519 km from Santiago, the capital of Chile, what makes possible to conect from one place to another in 45 minutes by plane and five hours by land.

From the modern airport, “Carriel Sur”, is posible to make conections with the main cities of the country, as much as internacional routes because of the flight traffic of every day of the year.

 

 

Tourism

The large variety of touristic attractions available in all the Biobio region, make this to be a really interesting destiny for visitors. This zone combines the heritage of the original people, the creole traditions and an important cultural richness.

Mountains, lakes, lagoons, nacional parks, beaches, vines, history, among others, are some of the interesting places for the traveller, what it makes of the Biobio region, without discussion, a place not to be missed.

College City

Concepción is a collage city by excellence, there are, at the moment, more than 10 head offices and 13 professional colleges. Important galleries of art, foreign and national artists murals, museums, cinemas, theaters depend of these universities and intitutes, making an important cultural activity.

The cultural interchange between foreign and nacional students, give Concepción a cosmopolitan character.

The Unviersity of Concepción, founded in may 14th of 1919 by Enrique Molina Garmendia, is the academic emblem that the city has, and this university has been the cot of many teachers and professors recognized in the whole world.

 

Gastronomical

The gastronomical proposal of Concepción, goes from restaurants that offer international cousine, to a creole culinary offer. From this, stands out the sea food combined with different ancestral people own species.

A large variety of plates can be accompanied with flavours and bouquets coming from the vines stocks available in the international market and many of these, original from the Biobio region valley, that has own elaboration.

Technology

The city of Concepción has an advanced and modern system of telecommunications. The hotel offer combined with convention centres, contain high technology available.

The airport and most places in town, offer free access to WI-FI.

An integrated transport system in which are connected, trains, buses and bike roads, making of Concepcióna modern metropolis.

The many roads, railway and routes that connects the whole province of Concepción with different locations, investigation centres with high technology from universities and a modern logistic platform, are important elements that Concepción needs to open itself to the Pacific-Asia.

 

Economic Activity

The Biobio region has an approximated population of 2 million in habitants, being the second most populated region of the country; the 49,2% of its population, concentrates in the province of Concepción. The 23,6% in the province of Ñuble, the 18,5% in Biobio province and the 8,7% in Arauco province.

The regional exportations in the 2006 reached a total of US$ FOB 4.602 millions and they represented an 8,2% from the total exportation of the country.

In 2006, the Region exported 855 different products, a 100 more than the previous year through 630 companies, 33 more than 2005 and to a 130 countries, 4 more than the previous period.
