Dear Colleagues,
This 2001 World Congress on Computers in Agriculture and Natural Resources opens the new millennium with the goal of becoming a forum where professionals from all over the world can exchange experiences and create channels of communication that result in professional and scientific collaboration.

The Congress is the result of the combined effort of major organizations that in the past brought professionals together through international meetings on the subject. In 1999, representatives of Sociedade Brasileira de Informática Aplicada à Agropecuária e Agroindústria (SBI/AGRO), The Asian Federation of Information Technologies in Agriculture (AFITA), The European Federation of Information Technologies in Agriculture (EFITA), American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE), Commission Internationale du Genie Rural (CIGR) and the World Federation of Engineering Associations (WFEA) met in Bonn, Germany, where the idea for this conference was born.
Contributions to the Congress come from many different countries and professionals, covering a wide range of topics. These range from new applications of well established technologies to the use of state of the art and emerging technologies. The Congress also includes a pre-conference workshop that focuses on current infor-mation technology tools.
The setting of the Congress, Foz do Iguaçu, is a natural treasure that will not only act as a beautiful background, but will also be a reminder of using technology to preserve nature for future genera-tions to enjoy.
I’m looking forward to seeing you in Brazil.
