ITEM WRITING SESSION FOR THE PROFESSIONAL

ENGINEERS EXAM (ED-414)

Professional Engineers registered in the United States are invited to assist in the preparation of the Agricultural Engineering Professional Engineers exam in this PE Item Writing Session. Proof of professional licensure is required to attend this special session. Those assisting will earn professional development hours toward their PE registration requirements in many states. “AUTISM, ANIMALS AND DESIGN”

"I think in pictures," writes ASABE member Temple Grandin, and her so-called visual thinking is a tremendous advantage in her job as a livestock-equipment designer. Grandin's unique skill is a byproduct of her having autism, and she is living proof that those diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders can lead highly productive lives with the proper support and understanding. Author of several books, including the revelatory Emergence: Labeled Autistic, and also Animals in Translation, Grandin has been the featured subject on National Public Radio and on such television programs as "48 Hours," "The Today Show" and "Primetime Live." Her insights on animal welfare and autism have enthralled and enlightened audiences, and you will be similarly affected when you hear her in Minneapolis

 

 

INDUSTRY-STUDENT EXCHANGE

Students will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with industry representatives from companies in each of the profession’s technical areas.  This relaxed environment promotes the building of professional contacts.  Come and receive information about career paths and specific employers in your respective area of interest.

ASABE100 HIGH SCHOOL MULTI-MEDIA

COMPETITION PRESENTATIONS

The top three entries in the ASABE100 High School Multi-Media Competition will be presented by the student competitors. Everyone is welcome to attend these presentations, which will decide the final rankings for the top prizes.

CENTRALAMERICAN, SOUTH AMERICAN AND

CHINESE TRENDS IN STANDARDS AND SAFETY

MONDAY, JUNE 18            2:30PM-5:00PM

This session is of interest to all ASABE members involved in International Standardization, or who are interested in South American, Central American and Chinese activities and relationships. In this T-13 sponsored session, Steven Bipes of ANSI will discuss the ANSI functions in general and the relationships to the Standards Developing Organizations, such as ASABE. He will then explain the ANSI relationships and outreach with the Standards Developing Organizations in South America, as part of the Regional Standing Committee-Americas (RSC-A).Various other speakers will discuss current trends in China.

ASSOCIATION OF OVERSEAS CHINESE

AGRICULTURAL, BIOLOGICAL AND FOOD ENGINEERS

(AOCABFE) BUSINESS MEETING AND BANQUET

MONDAY, JUNE 18            6:00PM-7:00PM

Location: 101-A

AOCABFE is a professional association with the primary goal of promoting and facilitating research and educational exchanges with China in areas of agricultural, biological and food engineering. Conference attendees with international interests are invited to attend the AOCABFE business meeting where the AOCABFE activities in 2006-2007 will be  reviewed and plans of action for 2007-2008 will be discussed. There will be a dinner banquet right after the business meeting at a location to be announced. The banquet will provide an excellent opportunity for socializing and networking. Awards will be presented to outstanding student members of AOCABFE at the banquet.

COST: $50 each; $15 for students & members from China

GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD COMPETITION

The Graduate Student Research Award (GSRA) Competition sets out to recognize excellence in the conduct and presentation of agricultural and biological engineering research carried out by graduate student members. The competition is held in two parts: a written competition and an oral presentation competition for the top three finalists in the M.S. and Ph.D. categories.

 

 

ASABE CAREER FAIR

TUESDAY, JUNE 19          9:30AM-12:00PM

The Career Fair is just one of the many highlights which are a part of the 100th Anniversary Celebration.  It is an outstanding networking opportunity that allows interested individuals to connect with Fortune 500 companies, agricultural and bio-based businesses, bio-research companies, and major land grant universities looking for qualified candidates. 

 

The ASABE Career Fair provides an opportunity for employers and potential employees to come together informally and share information.  Academia will also be represented with opportunities at the masters and doctoral level.  Employers register their job positions at the membership desk and receive an interview table number.  These openings are posted with the table numbers located near the ASABE registration desk for review.  Prospective employees are invited to seek out employers of interest and exchange information.

THE NEXT 100 YEARS – SPECIAL SESSION

This session will pick up where last year’s very popular session of the same title left off. Panelists will respond to the vision of the future laid out by those who spoke at the 2006 Annual International Meeting. Robotic tractors, rain on demand, peanut-flavored microbes, vaccines from cow’s milk – are these in our future? Where will the future take the profession, and what will be the role of the engineer in 2017? Expect an engaging provocative discussion on these topics.

The Senior Actives and Young Professionals are sponsoring a session to celebrate our 100th anniversary and look forward to the future of ASABE.  Two presentations will highlight moments in the history of our society and profession.  These will be followed by presentations that will describe the Society and profession as seen through the eyes of our Young Professionals.  Time will also be provided for those attending to add to the celebration.
