Program Funds

The ASABE Foundation administers funds to support programs, projects and services in these areas.

ASABE Future Fund  Supports special projects that address critical needs or long-term opportunities to enhance the services of the Society.

Communication Technology Fund Enables the Society to meet challenges and opportunities in the development, processing and dissemination of technical information in an age of electronic information processing and communications. 

Cooperative Standards Fund  Supports the development and enhancement of the ASABE Cooperative Standards Program.

Engineering Education Fund  Supports the development and improvement of educational materials and methods for engineering in agriculture.  In the past it has supported the Continuing Professional Development program at the annual meeting, with $5,000 for speakers' fees and travel expenses, audio visual equipment rentals and handout costs.

Engineering Research Fund To develop and support selected research projects of high interest to society and the membership of ASABE.

International Development Fund  Members are raising endowment funds and capital funds, (i.e., funds that can be spent upon receipt) to provide subscriptions to ASABE periodicals, supply new ASABE books and ship collections of outdated ASABE published materials to libraries in developing countries.

Public Issues Education Fund  Supports the Society's public awareness activities to build understanding regarding technological issues involving engineering in agriculture.


Award and Scholarship Funds


William J. and Maryjane Adams Jr., Fund  Annually supports a $1,000 scholarship to an undergraduate student member of ASABE.

Advancement of Surface Irrigation Award Fund  This fund, newly endowed in 1999, will honor individuals and projects for significant contributions to surface irrigation.

K.K. Barnes Award Fund  During 1999, paid the direct costs of three cash prizes and recognition for the Student Paper Competition.

A.W. Farrall Award  Supports the A.W. Farrall Young Educator Award, given since 1972.

ASABE Fellows Fund Supports the annual Fellows Award and Recognition Ceremony.

Henry Giese Award Funds the Henry Giese Structures and Environment Award, given since 1959.

G.B. Gunlogson Award Supports the GB Gunlogson Countryside Engineering Award, given since 1975.  During 1999 this fund also contributed $12, 085 to the electronic publishing development.

Dale F. Heermann Award Fund  Honors those professionals in research, development, extension, education or industry that have made significant contributions to the improvement of efficient and effective sprinkler irrigation.

Yoshikuni Kishida Award Supports the Kishida International Award, given since 1978.

New Holland Award Supports the New Holland Young Researcher Award, given since 1972.

Rain Bird Award Supports the Rain Bird Engineering Concept of the Year Award, given since 1974.

Evelyn E. Rosentreter Fund Endowed during 1999 this fund recognizes and honors individuals for exemplary standards work and supports activities that will improve the availability and use of ASABE consensus standards.

R.E. Stewart Award Supports the Robert E. Stewart Engineering-Humanities Award, given since 1986.


Special Purpose Funds


J.L. Butt Fund Enables the Society to attract high caliber keynote speakers to ASABE international meetings and provides seed money grants for start-up projects to improve member services.  During 1999, $4,000 was used to pay most of the speaker fee for the keynote address at the General Session of the Annual International Meeting.

Price Hobgood Award Annual earnings from this fund are transferred to the ASABE Future Fund for use where the need is greatest.

ASABE Past Presidents Fund Supports activities and events our past president deem worthy to highlight the heritage of ASABE and challenge our Society to capture new opportunities to serve the public.

Harold Pinches Memorial Textbook Loan Fund Provides money for authors to write agricultural engineering and agricultural mechanization textbooks.

ASABE Preprofessional Funds Nurtures university student interest and participation in ASABE, assists selected students financially and seeks to build a larger, long-term ASABE membership body.  In 1999 expenditures were $450 for the Quarter-Scale Tractor Design Competition and Pull.

Tony& Lucille Weasler Fund Annual earnings are transferred to the Cooperative Standards Program for use where the need is greatest.


Endowed-in-Process Funds


ASABE Foundation Scholarship Fund  Established in 1999, the fund when endowed will provide a scholarship to a university student majoring in agricultural or biological engineering.

Russell H. Hahn Fund Established in 2000. Earnings from the Russell H. Hahn Fund will be used to support more extensive efforts in international standards activities by ASABE.

Gale E. Holloway Professional Development Award Fund  To encourage and recognize annually outstanding leadership and active involvement in ASABE for early career members.

Larry & Lola Huggins Fund Established in 1998.  It is the intent of the donors that, after endowment status is achieved, earnings be used as annually designated by the ASABE President.

James & Beaulah Martin Fund Cash awards will assist authors in preparation of agricultural engineering and agricultural mechanization textbooks.


Non-Endowed (Capital) Funds

Aerotech Award Supports the Nolan Mitchell Young Extension Worker Award, given since 1972.

AGCO Student Design Award Supports the AGCO National Student Design Competition.

Hancor Award Supports the Hancor Soil and Water Engineering Award given since 1966.

IAFIS Award Supports IAFIS Foundation - FPEI Food Engineering Award, given since 1972.

John Deere Award  Supports the John Deere Gold Medal Award, given by ASABE since 1938.

John Deere Lecture Series  Defrays the costs of providing an honorarium and plaque to the lecturer and printing the lecture.

Massey Ferguson Educational Award  Supports this award, given since 1966.

Mayfield Award  Supports the Mayfield Cotton Engineering Award, given since 1985.

McCormick/Case Award  Supports the Cyrus Hall McCormick/Jerome Increase Case Gold Medal Award, given since 1932.

NAMIC Safety Engineering Award Fund (formerly the Packer Safety Engineering Award).   Supports this award, given since 1985.

NFEC Award  Supports the National Food and Energy Council Electric Technology Award, given since 1969.

Sunkist Award  Supports the Sunkist Young Designer Award, given since 1972.

R.R. Yoerger Student Engineer of the Year Scholarship Fund  In 1999, supported a $1,000 scholarship to an undergraduate student member of ASABE.


Non-Endowed (Capital) Funds

Project Funds

Electronic Publishing Legacy Material Fund Established in 2000 - This fund will assist in the financial support required to facilitate the addition of previously published ASABE technical information to the new ASABE full-text online library.

100th Anniversary Fund Will create programs to increase recognition of the profession as part of the ASABE Centennial in 2007 and to commemorate the contributions of agricultural and biological engineers to humankind.

Soil Monograph Fund  Contributes to the development cost of the monograph series on soil dynamics.  During 1999 $1,500 were disbursed.

Standards Development Fund  Receives $100 of each gift to the endowed Cooperative Standards Program.  During 1999, furnished $1,700 for out-of-pocket expenses incurred by the Society's standards activities, to help defray the costs of printing, postage, travel and other standards-development expenses.

Young Professionals Community (YPC) Fund  Contributions to the YPC Fund go toward programs to help transition student (preprofessional) members into full membership. Programs include continuing education sessions, networking meetings, business meetings and technical/social tours.
