Instructions for Preparing a Nomination

Please use the nomination form for submitting a nomination. The nominator of the candidate for of the award shall submit a completed and signed copy of the nomination form to headquarters by October 31. The required, signed letters of support can be included with the nomination or e-mailed to the attention of flautt@asabe.org by the October 31 due date. If you are unable to email a signed electronic copy of the nomination form or support letter, please mail or fax a signed copy by Oct. 31.

It is recommended that you first fill out the .pdf form, review and then you have three ways

Purpose of the Awards

To recognize and honor members of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering under 40 years of age on July 1 of the year in which the award is presented, for outstanding contributions to the advancement of the profession and to stimulate professional achievement.

The Awards

Young Researcher Award was endowed by New Holland North America Inc., New Holland, Pennsylvania. The New Holland Young Researcher Award recognizes dedicated use of scientific methodology to seek out facts or principles significant to the agricultural engineering profession

Young Extension Worker Award, recognizes outstanding success in motivating people to acquire knowledge, skills and understanding towards the improvement of agricultural operations.

Young Educator Award was endowed by the family and friends of ASABE Past President and Fellow, A.W. Farrall, who was associated with Michigan State University's Agricultural Engineering Department. The A.W. Farrall Young Educator Award honors outstanding success in motivating others in the application of engineering principles to the problems of agricultural engineering.

Young Designer Award, is sponsored by Sunkist Growers, Inc. The Sunkist Young Designer Award honors the development of a technical plan that influences agricultural engineering progress, as evidenced by use in the field.

Selection

The following committees are responsible for selecting award recipients with final approval by the
M-102 Awards Coordinating Committee:
l M-114 - New Holland Young Researcher Award Committee;
l M-115 - A.W. Farrall Young Educator Award Committee;
l M-116 - Sunkist Young Designer Award Committee; and
l M-117 -Young Extension Worker Award Committee.

The award consists of an engraved walnut plaque to be presented to an individual for each young engineering award at the Annual International Meeting of the Society.

NOTE:  Those nominating a candidate will be advised if their candidate is selected. Each nominee will be considered by the award committee for two additional years if not selected the year nominated. If a candidate attains 40 years of age prior to July 1 of the year in which the award is to be presented, thus no longer complying with age criteria, he/she will be dropped from consideration.

Eligibility for an Award

The recipient shall be a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering. The recipient shall have made noteworthy contributions to agricultural engineering as described above under
"Purpose of the Award." The candidate must be under the age of 40 prior to July 1 of the year in which the award is presented.

The Young Engineering Achievement Awards were established in 1972 to honor members of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering under 40 years of age on July 1 for outstanding contributions to the advancement of the profession and to stimulate professional achievement. There are four separate Engineering Achievement Awards to honor individuals pursuing different lines of endeavor.

Sunkist Young Designer Award

The Sunkist Young Designer Award honors the development or creation of a technical plan which is materially influencing agricultural engineering progress, as evidenced by use in the field. The sponsor is Sunkist Growers, Inc. of Ontario, California.

A. W. Farrall Young Educator Award

The A.W. Farrall Young Educator Award honors outstanding success in motivating others to apply engineering principles to the problems of agricultural engineering.
