Instructions for Preparing a Nomination
Please use the nomination form for submitting a nomination. The nominator of the candidate for the FPSA-FPEI Food Engineering Award shall submit a completed nomination form to headquarters by October 31.
All award nomination forms and letters of support are to be submitted to ASABE headquarters in the following electronic format only. Hard copy sent via regular mail will no longer be accepted.
The nomination form and required letters of support are to be sent as PDF files emailed to the attention of ASABE Awards Administrator, Carol Flautt - flautt@asabe.org Nomination forms and letters of support submitted in this format will allow headquarters to send the documents electronically to the award selection committee. It is the responsibility of the nominator and authors of the support letters to verify that the PDF file appears as intended.
The required letters of support can be included with the nomination form or sent separately as a PDF file emailed to the attention of ASABE Awards Administrator, Carol Flautt - flautt@asabe.org by October 31.

Purpose
of the Award
To honor and recognize those who
have made engineering contributions in research, development or design of food
processes significant to the food industry; or in outstanding leadership,
management or education to advance the food engineering profession.
The
Award
The name of the award shall be the FPSA-FPEI Food Engineering Award.
The sponsors of the award are the Food Processing Suppliers Association
Foundation, 1451 Dolley Madison Boulevard, McLean,
VA 22101-3850 and the Food and Process Engineering Institute of
ASABE.
The FPSA-FPEI Food Engineering Award shall be presented annually;
alternating between recognition of a "Distinguished" Food engineer
in odd-numbered years, and an "Emerging" Food Engineer with less
than ten years of practice - less than 10 years from the date of
nominee's terminal degree (B.S., M.S., PhD) to the date of the nomination
submission, to be presented in even-numbered years. The award includes
a gold medal, a certificate, $2000 cash and the recipient's travel
expenses to the annual conference of the International Association
of Food Industry Suppliers for presentation of the award. The winner
will also be honored with a plaque at the Annual International
Meeting
of the Society.
Award recipients will be selected by a jury appointed by the M-154
FPSA-FPEI Food Engineering Award Committee with final approval by
M-102 Awards Coordinating Committee.
NOTE:
Those nominating a candidate will
be advised only if their candidate is selected. Each nominee will be considered
two years later if not selected the year nominated. A candidate nominated for
the "Emerging" Food Engineer award may only get one chance at selection because
of the
10-year-practice rule.
Eligibility
for the Award
The principal criteria to be used
as a basis of selection for the award are:

The degree to which human
performance and progress in the application of engineering technology has been
significantly advanced.

The development of new and
useful machines, processes or methods for the food industry.

Leadership shown in the
professional development of the food industry.

The inspirational example of the
individual's activities in the food industry, and food engineering
profession.

This award is to honor those who have made

Food Engineering Award

The
DFISA-FPEI Food Engineering Award is sponsored by the International Association
of Food Industry Suppliers Foundation of McLean, Virginia. Established in 1972,
the award was presented every two years until 1995 when it became an annual
award. In 1998 the award name was changed to IAFIS-FPEI Food Engineering
Award and is presented annually alternating between recognition of
a "Distinguished" Food Engineer in odd-numbered years, and an "Emerging" Food
Engineer (with less than ten years' practice) in even-numbered years. The
purpose of the award is to "honor those who have made engineering contributions
in research, development or design of food processes significant to the food
industry; or in outstanding leadership, management or education to advance the
food engineering profession".
