HANCOR SOIL and WATER ENGINEERING AWARD 

Instructions for Preparing a Nomination 

Please use the nomination form for submitting a nomination. The nominator of the candidate for Hancor Soil and Water Engineering Award shall submit a completed nomination form to headquarters by October 31.

All award nomination forms and letters of support are to be submitted to ASABE headquarters in the following electronic format only. Hard copy sent via regular mail will no longer be accepted.

The nomination form and required letters of support are to be sent as PDF files emailed to the attention of ASABE Awards Administrator, Carol Flautt - flautt@asabe.org Nomination forms and letters of support submitted in this format will allow headquarters to send the documents electronically to the award selection committee. It is the responsibility of the nominator and authors of the support letters to verify that the PDF file appears as intended.

The required letters of support can be included with the nomination form or sent separately as a PDF file emailed to the attention of ASABE Awards Administrator, Carol Flautt - flautt@asabe.org by October 31.

Purpose of the Award

To honor and recognize a member of ASABE who has performed noteworthy contributions to the advancement of soil and water engineering in teaching, research, planning, design, construction, management, or development of materials. These contributions shall have been either in the form of published literature, notable performance, or special actions which have served to advance the science of soil and water engineering.

The Award

The name of the award shall be the Hancor Soil and Water Engineering Award. The award is sponsored by Hancor, Inc. of Findley, Ohio. In 1966, the Hancock Brick & Tile Co. (now Hancor Inc.) decided to sponsor an award recognizing noteworthy contributions to the advancement of soil and water engineering. For the first two years, the award was presented to recognize outstanding work in drainage engineering, but in 1968 the scope expanded to include all engineering aspects of soil and water control for agriculture.

The M-152 Hancor Soil and Water Engineering Award Committee will be responsible for the selection of the award recipient with final approval by the M-102 Awards Coordinating Committee.

The award shall consist of a polished hardwood plaque mounted with a bronze medallion engraved with the elements symbolic of the relationship between agricultural engineering and a productive natural environment and be presented to an individual at the Annual International Meeting of the Society.

NOTE:  Those nominating a candidate will be advised only if their candidate is selected. Each nominee will be considered by the award committee for two additional years if not selected the year nominated.

Eligibility for the Award

The recipient shall be a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering. The recipient shall have made noteworthy contributions to soil & water engineering as described above under the
"Purpose of the Award."

Hancor Soil and Water Engineering Award

In 1966, the Hancock Brick & Tile Co. (now Hancor Inc.) decided to sponsor an award recognizing noteworthy contributions to the advancement of soil and water engineering. Those contributions may be in teaching, research, planning design, construction, management, or development of materials. For the first two years of its existence the award was presented in recognition of outstanding work in drainage engineering; in 1968, its scope was enlarged to include all engineering aspects of soil and water control for agriculture.
