HENRY GIESE STRUCTURES and ENVIRONMENT AWARD 

Instructions for Preparing a Nomination

Please use the nomination form for submitting a nomination. The nominator of the candidate for Henry Giese Structures and Environment Award shall submit a completed nomination form to headquarters by October 31.

All award nomination forms and letters of support are to be submitted to ASABE headquarters in the following electronic format only. Hard copy sent via regular mail will no longer be accepted.

The nomination form and required letters of support are to be sent as PDF files emailed to the attention of ASABE Awards Administrator, Carol Flautt - flautt@asabe.org Nomination forms and letters of support submitted in this format will allow headquarters to send the documents electronically to the award selection committee. It is the responsibility of the nominator and authors of the support letters to verify that the PDF file appears as intended.

The required letters of support can be included with the nomination form or sent separately as a PDF file emailed to the attention of ASABE Awards Administrator, Carol Flautt - flautt@asabe.org by October 31.

Purpose of the Award

To honor and recognize excellence in the structures and environment area of agricultural engineering.

The Award

The name of the award shall be the Henry Giese Structures and Environment Award. The award was established in 1988 and was endowed by the family of Henry Giese. The award commemorates Giese's lifelong accomplishments in farm building design, research and teaching.

The M-151 Henry Giese Structures and Environment Award Committee will be responsible for the selection of the award recipient with final approval by M-102 Awards Coordinating Committee.

The award shall consist of a plaque that portrays Henry Giese and reads: "For distinguished service in advancing the knowledge and science of agricultural structures and environment." The plaque, which is mounted on a wooden base, depicts a stylized barn that evokes the relationship between farming and agricultural engineering.

NOTE:  Those nominating a candidate will be advised only if their candidate is selected. Each nominee will be considered by the award committee for two additional years if not selected the year nominated.

Eligibility for the Award

A nominee shall be an ASABE member in good standing. Age, sec, nationality, and membership grade shall not be considerations. Previous recipients of the Henry Giese Award or the MSMA-ASABE Award shall not be eligible for the Henry Giese Award.

A nominee shall have demonstrated outstanding and meritorious, significant achievement in advancing the knowledge of science of agricultural structures and environment. Equal consideration shall be given to the advancement of teaching, research, design, and basic knowledge of agricultural structures and environment.

Agricultural structures and environment shall be considered broadly and include livestock and poultry buildings, plant growth structures, crop and other storage and processing structures, and rural human housing.

Henry Giese Structures and Environment Award

Established in 1988 by the family of Henry Giese, the award commemorates Giese's lifelong accomplishments in farm building design, research, and teaching. It is presented annually to honor an individual who has demonstrated outstanding and meritorious achievement in agricultural structures and environment. Contributions are considered across a broad range including livestock and poultry buildings; plant growth, crop and other storage and processing structures; and rural human housing.
