Instructions for Preparing a Nomination
Please use the nomination form for submitting a nomination. The nominator of the candidate for John Deere Gold Medal Award shall submit a completed nomination form to headquarters by October 31.
All award nomination forms and letters of support are to be submitted to ASABE headquarters in the following electronic format only. Hard copy sent via regular mail will no longer be accepted.
The nomination form and required letters of support are to be sent as PDF files emailed to the attention of ASABE Awards Administrator, Carol Flautt - flautt@asabe.org Nomination forms and letters of support submitted in this format will allow headquarters to send the documents electronically to the award selection committee. It is the responsibility of the nominator and authors of the support letters to verify that the PDF file appears as intended.
The required letters of support can be included with the nomination form or sent separately as a PDF file emailed to the attention of ASABE Awards Administrator, Carol Flautt - flautt@asabe.org by October 31.

Purpose
of the Award
To recognize distinguished
achievement in the application of science and art to the soil. The award is to
honor achievement through engineering ways and means for improved manipulation,
use and conservation of the soil-water resources. The achievement resulted in
applications of a new concept, product, art, or science that advanced the
development of agriculture.
The
Award
The name of the award shall be
the John Deere Gold Medal Award. The award is sponsored by the John Deere
Foundation, Deere & Company, Moline, Illinois. The selection of recipients
for the John Deere Gold Medal Award is made by the M-111 Jury of Awards
Committee, consisting normally of the five immediate active past presidents of
the Society, with final approval by the M-102 Awards
Coordinating Committee.
The award shall consist of a
bronze medal and a gold medal with the likeness of John Deere who appears on
one side of each of the medals. In 1837, John Deere forged a piece of saw blade
into a plow-form, creating the world's first all-steel moldboard. A century
later, his descendants established the John Deere award to recognize
"Distinguished Achievement in the Application of Science and Art to the Soil".
It will be presented to an individual and presented annually at the Annual
International Meeting of the Society.
NOTE:
Those nominating a candidate will be advised only if their candidate is
selected. Each nominee will be considered by the award committee for two
additional years if not selected the year nominated.
Eligibility
for the Award
Only ASABE members in good
standing may sponsor candidates for the Society's medal awards. The recipient
shall be a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering. The
recipient shall have made noteworthy contributions of achievement in the
application of science and art to the soil as described above under "Purpose of
the Award."

In 1837, John Deere forged a piece of saw
blade into a plow-form, creating the world's first all-steel
moldboard. Once century later in 1937, his descendants established
the John Deere award to recognize "Distinguished Achievement
in the Application of Science and Art to the Soil." Those
words are inscribed on the handsome gold medal.
