First Pit Silos in the United States

Plaque for the First Pit Silos

ASAE's plaque commemorating the first Pit Silos for ensiling corn in the United States.

Acknowledgment:  Pictures of ASAE's Pit Silo plaque and its site
were furnished courtesy of Dave H. Morris, III, great, great grandson of Francis Morris, who built the early silos.

Francis Morris Barn

The Francis Morris barn in the Wilde Lake area of Columbia, Maryland. The ASAE plaque is mounted just to the left of the double doors.

To visit ASAE's plaque recognizing the first US pit silos:
From highway US 29, go west on MD 175 (the Little Patuxent Parkway).

At the second traffic light, turn right on Running Brook.  Immediately take the first left.  You will find a stone house on your right and the barn, with the plaque, on your left.
